    Trial patch

A small trial area to confirm the result and prove the methodology before committing to the whole elevation.

Surface left rinsed and clean. Photos and a written method statement supplied for listed-building records.

What DOFF steam actually lifts off heritage stone.

Stonework does not stain overnight. Decades of rain and traffic leave a grey-black atmospheric crust across the exposed faces, while green growth settles into the sheltered mouldings and along the plinth where the wall stays damp longest.

DOFF takes that off with super-heated steam at low pressure — no chemicals on most jobs, no jetting, nothing that scours the lime mortar or rounds off the stone. Every elevation starts with a trial patch, so you see the result on your own wall before we commit to the rest of it. Drag the slider to see the same window and plinth before and after.

  • Atmospheric soiling and black crust lifted from the stone face
  • Green growth cleared from mouldings, string course and plinth
  • Lime mortar and soft stone left undamaged

What is DOFF cleaning?
DOFF is a proprietary super-heated steam system widely used on heritage and listed buildings. It cleans stone, brick and render at high temperature but very low pressure — so it kills biological growth and lifts paint without damaging soft substrates.
Can DOFF remove paint and graffiti?
Yes — most modern paints, lime-washes and graffiti come off with steam alone. For stubborn coatings we pair DOFF with a heritage-safe poultice; trial patch first, always.
Is it safe on listed buildings?
DOFF is one of the preferred methods for listed and Grade II buildings precisely because the pressure is so low. We provide written method statements suitable for conservation-officer sign-off.
DOFF or softwash — which is right for my building?
Softwash is best for biological growth on modern renders and roofs. DOFF is best for stonework, lime mortar, paint and graffiti where you can't risk chemical run-off or jetting damage. We'll recommend on survey.
